Business Cases

Business cases seem very daunting and can often be hard work. As registered Better Business Case (BBC) Practitioners, we can help clients smoothly navigate the process and help make the best possible case for investment.  We also have significant experience of working within the Waka Kotahi Business Case Approach (BCA).

  • Strategic Case - problem definition, opportunity assessment, investment objective setting and evidence-base.

  • Economic Case – quantifiable and non-quantifiable benefits appraisal and realisation using Waka Kotahi or UK Department for Transport (WebTAG) guidance.

  • Financial Case – affordability, financial modelling and quantified risk assessment.

  • Commercial Case – procurement strategies and revenue generating opportunities.

  • Management Case – project management, governance, resource planning, monitoring and post-investment evaluation.

We work very closely with other transport professionals - including modellers, planners and cost estimators – and bring teams together with a common aim of investment success.  We can offer discrete packages of work or help with producing entire documents based around the five cases

Place Making

We don’t just love transport planning for its own sake. Transport could and should be a force for good when it comes to creating liveable communities - where safety, security, health and wellbeing should not be seen as optional extras.

If new developments are located on strong public transport corridors, and are
designed “ground up” with walking and cycling networks as their basis, then mode shift is much more likely to happen.

With Regional Spatial Strategies on the horizon, there has never been a better time to better understand and deliver integration between transport and land use planning. We are highly experienced in working with spatial and community development professionals to deliver joint outcomes. Specific services include:

  • Integrated transport and land use strategies.

  • Transport policy and strategy input into spatial plans.

  • Public transport planning for new development.

  • Travel demand management and mode shift strategies.

  • Integrated Transport Assessments for new development.

Project & Programme Management

Training & Development

We measure our success not purely on outcomes and benefits delivered. We also focus on capacity building and knowledge-transfer within client organisations; and like nothing better than to help people grow into their roles.

All our work features robust knowledge-transfer as standard. However, we can also supplement this with bespoke training on both technical transport planning and project / programme management. Our aim is to de-mystify subjects whilst retaining intellectual rigour. Use of plain language, practical examples and a highly engaging presentation style all help with this approach. Specific services include:

  • Training and development plans linked to personal or organisational objectives.

  • Short online or face-to-face workshops.

  • Longer class-based training courses.

  • Short bite-sized briefing notes.

  • Presentations to meetings.

  • In-depth training manuals.
